5 Popular Styles of Art

Art is a great way of communication. You can put down your thoughts and emotions on paper or other mediums using art. Artists use various styles of art or painting. Here are the most popular ones.
Realism

It is referred to as ‘real-life’ art because the artist tries to capture the real-life image in his or her paintings. The artist tries to create an accurate depiction of real-life objects.
Photorealism

In this style of art, the artwork looks like a photo. The painting will look like a sharply focused photograph. Little details are included here so that it looks as if a photo has been taken.
Painterly

In this style of art, the brushstrokes will be visible. Pictures can be painted using watercolour, acrylic, oil colour, or anything that uses a brush. Previously, artists tried hard to blend the colours in such a way that the brushstroke and texture become invisible. But painterly artists don’t make any effort to do so; they keep it visible.
Impressionism
This type of painting appears to be unfinished as you will see thin brushstrokes. The focus is on the light. Most artists following this style paint outdoors so that they can make use of the sunlight.
Abstract

This form of art doesn’t look real. They are mostly shapes, colours, textures, and the like. The purpose of this form of art is for the viewer to find out the meaning behind it. As a painter, you can choose any type of art style that you feel comfortable with. Keep practising that style so that your intuition and skills develop constantly.
